Le Salon de Léon reopens at Bruges’ historic Military Chapel

After years without a public purpose, the historic Military Chapel in Bruges has reopened its doors - and we are proud to announce that Le Salon de Léon has found its new home there.

Located in the heart of Bruges at Kartuizerinnenstraat 2, the former Carthusian church — built between 1611 and 1614 and serving as the city’s war memorial since 1927 — will host our gallery for at least the next four years.

More than a traditional gallery, Le Salon de Léon brings together art, antiques and collectible design in an eclectic and carefully curated dialogue.

The new 300 m² setting allows the collection to unfold within a space steeped in history and atmosphere. Works by artists such as Karel Appel, Constant Permeke and Jan Fabre are presented alongside contemporary voices including Mathieu Weemaels, Ilse Pierard, Frank Kenis and Sebastian Kulbaka, as well as Old Masters, mid-century design and exclusive furniture pieces by Atelier Maison Rouge.

The monumental yet intimate character of the chapel — with its stained-glass windows and remarkable natural light — forms an essential part of the experience. The ambition is not only to present a collection, but also to reopen this hidden architectural gem to the wider public.

Alongside the permanent presentation, Le Salon de Léon will introduce a series of temporary thematic exhibitions throughout the year.

The first inaugural exhibition is dedicated to Antoon De Clerck (1923–2001), a close friend and studio companion of Roger Raveel. In anticipation of the 25th anniversary of his passing in December 2026, the gallery brings together a carefully selected group of works celebrating his artistic legacy.
